A selection of works from the
Methodist Modern Art Collection on view at
Cromer Methodist Church

One of Britain’s most important collections of modern religious art is coming to Cromer and will be on display at The Community Matters Cafe, Hall Road and the Methodist Church, West Street from Tuesday 7th August until Friday 17th August NR27 9DT- opening times are given below.

This unique collection of art featuring biblical themes has toured the UK and abroad since its inception over 50 years ago and it is a real privilege to have it here in Cromer.  In the works we have chosen we see clear connections between the life of Jesus among the forgotten and the outcast, and the mission of Cromer Methodist Church (and the Foodbank that was seeded there).  Though the images directly relate to the Christian faith they are worthy of a much wider audience than just the church community and it is our delight to invite you to come and view them.  The exhibition is free, open to all and no booking is required.

From the early church to the present day images have played a crucial role in the exploration of the Christian faith. Since the catacombs of Rome the gospel has been articulated as much in image as it has in word.

The Methodist Modern Art Collection takes its place in this long tradition, providing an opportunity for new encounters, vibrant expressions of God's love, and a whole range of conversations that are both missional and pastoral.

We are enriched by the Collection.

The Revd Canon Gareth J Powell, Secretary of the Methodist Conference
